Where? The Thurston County Fairgrounds.
When? 29th July, Noon until 6pm
What? One pound queen line jars. Either glass or plastic allowed. (If you need these Nathan has some available for purchase).
Here are some basic honey showing tips. These come straight from the Honey Judge!
- CLEAN THAT JAR! Dust, fingerprints, gunk inside, gunk outside. GET IT SPOTLESS!
- Careful with the lid and that piece of seal that is in there. Keep it neat and tidy. Wrinkles, dirt, etc.
- No bubbles;
- When you pour your honey in there, minimize the bubbles as much as possible.
- Slowly pour using something to guide the honey – glopping it into the jar will make bubbles.
- Put it in sunlight for a few days (don’t heat it too hot or microwave it).
- Let those bubbles float to the top.
- Keep your hands clean when handling the bottle and honey.
- Foam;
- Use a toothpick to carefully ‘grab’ & ‘spin’ the foam off the top.
- Be careful – you can push the foam/bubbles back down
- Check for hairs, particles of stuff floating around in there. Get those out. You may have to pour a few times to get it right.
- Level. Get that honey up to the ring at the top of the jar but not beyond it.
